Jesus sits in humiliation after the scourging, clothed in a royal robe and crowned with thorns while blood marks His garments and hands. Around Him, soldiers and onlookers crowd into the stone courtyard, some bowing in cruel imitation of worship while a spear, helmet, and sword underscore the violence of Roman power. The scene portrays the Gospel account of Christ being mocked as “King of the Jews,” where human contempt is set against His silent majesty. The purple robe and thorn crown become bitter symbols of ridicule, yet they also reveal the paradox of the Passion: the true King receives shame and suffering on the path to redemption.
