16 So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus,17 and he went out, bearing his own cross, to the place called The Place of a Skull, which in Aramaic is called Golgotha.18 There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.19 Pilate also wrote an inscription and put it on the cross. It read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”20 Many of the Jews read this inscription, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Aramaic, in Latin, and in Greek.21 So the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but rather, ‘This man said, I am King of the Jews.’”22 Pilate answered, “What I have written I have written.”23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his garments and divided them into four parts, one part for each soldier; also his tunic. But the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom,24 so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things,25 but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!”27 Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.

A főemberek pedig velük együtt így csúfolódtak: Másokat megmentett, mentse meg magát, ha ő a Krisztus, az Isten választottja!36 Kigúnyolták a katonák is, odamentek hozzá, ecetet vittek neki,37 és így szóltak: Ha te vagy a zsidók királya, mentsd meg magadat!38 Felirat is volt a feje fölött görög, latin és héber betűkkel írva: EZ A ZSIDÓK KIRÁLYA.39 A megfeszített gonosztevők közül az egyik így káromolta őt: Nem te vagy a Krisztus? Mentsd meg magadat és minket is!40 De a másik megrótta, ezt mondva neki: Nem féled az Istent? Hiszen te is ugyanazon ítélet alatt vagy!41 Mi ugyan jogosan, mert tetteink méltó büntetését kapjuk, de ő semmi rosszat sem követett el.42 Majd így szólt: Jézus, emlékezzél meg rólam, amikor eljössz a te királyságodba!43 Jézus így felelt neki: Bizony mondom neked, ma velem leszel a paradicsomban.

21 And they compelled a passerby, Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to carry his cross.22 And they brought him to the place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull).23 And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh, but he did not take it.24 And they crucified him and divided his garments among them, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take.25 And it was the third hour when they crucified him.26 And the inscription of the charge against him read, “The King of the Jews.”27 And with him they crucified two robbers, one on his right and one on his left.29 And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days,30 save yourself, and come down from the cross!”31 So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself.32 Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.” Those who were crucified with him also reviled him.
Matthew

De amikor megízlelte, nem akart inni belőle.35 Miután megfeszítették, sorsvetéssel megosztoztak ruháin;36 azután leültek ott, és őrizték.37 Feje fölé függesztették az ellene szóló vádat, ezzel a felirattal: EZ JÉZUS, A ZSIDÓK KIRÁLYA.38 Vele együtt feszítettek keresztre két rablót is, az egyiket a jobb, a másikat a bal keze felől.39 Akik elmentek mellette, a fejüket csóválva káromolták,40 és ezt mondták: Te, aki lerombolod a templomot, és három nap alatt felépíted, mentsd meg magadat, ha Isten Fia vagy, és szállj le a keresztről!41 Hasonlóan a főpapok is gúnyolódva mondták az írástudókkal és a vénekkel együtt:42 Másokat megmentett, magát nem tudja megmenteni. Ha Izráel királya, szálljon le most a keresztről, és hiszünk benne!43 Bízott az Istenben, szabadítsa meg most, ha kedveli őt; hiszen azt mondta: Isten Fia vagyok.44 A vele együtt megfeszített rablók is ugyanígy gyalázták.
