And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the LORD has given you to eat. 16 This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat. You shall each take an omer, according to the number of the persons that each of you has in his tent.’” 17 And the people of Israel did so. They gathered, some more, some less. 18 But when they measured it with an omer, whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat. 19 And Moses said to them, “Let no one leave any of it over till the morning.” 20 But they did not listen to Moses. Some left part of it till the morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. 21 Morning by morning they gathered it, each as much as he could eat; but when the sun grew hot, it melted. 22 On the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers each. And when all the leaders of the congregation came and told Moses, 23 he said to them, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Tomorrow is a day of solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD; bake what you will bake and boil what you will boil, and all that is left over lay aside to be kept till the morning.’” 24 So they laid it aside till the morning, as Moses commanded them, and it did not stink, and there were no worms in it. 25 Moses said, “Eat it today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field. 26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, which is a Sabbath, there will be none.” 27 On the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, but they found none. 28 And the LORD said to Moses, “How long will you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws? 29 See! The LORD has given you the Sabbath; therefore on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Remain each of you in his place; let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.” 30 So the people rested on the seventh day. 31 Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 32 Moses said, “This is what the LORD has commanded: ‘Let an omer of it be kept throughout your generations, so that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’” 33 And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a jar, and put an omer of manna in it, and place it before the LORD to be kept throughout your generations.” 34 As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron placed it before the testimony to be kept. 35 The people of Israel ate the manna forty years, till they came to a habitable land. They ate the manna till they came to the border of the land of Canaan. 36 (An omer is the tenth part of an ephah.) John 31 Atyáink a mannát ették a pusztában, ahogyan meg van írva: „Mennyei kenyeret adott nekik enni.” 32 Jézus pedig így válaszolt nekik: Bizony, bizony, mondom nektek, nem Mózes adta nektek a mennyei kenyeret, hanem az én Atyám adja nektek az igazi mennyei kenyeret. 33 Mert az Isten kenyere a mennyből száll le, és életet ad a világnak. 34 Erre ezt mondták neki: Uram, add nekünk mindig ezt a kenyeret! 35 Jézus azt mondta nekik: Én vagyok az élet kenyere: aki énhozzám jön, nem éhezik meg, és aki énbennem hisz, nem szomjazik meg soha. 36 De megmondtam nektek: láttatok ugyan engem, és mégsem hisztek. 37 Akit nekem ad az Atya, az mind énhozzám jön, és aki énhozzám jön, azt én nem küldöm el; 38 mert nem azért szálltam le a mennyből, hogy a magam akaratát tegyem, hanem hogy annak az akaratát, aki elküldött engem. 39 Annak pedig, aki elküldött engem, az az akarata, hogy abból, amit nekem adott, semmit se veszítsek el, hanem feltámasszam az utolsó napon. 40 Mert az én Atyámnak az az akarata, hogy annak, aki látja a Fiút, és hisz benne, örök élete legyen; én pedig feltámasztom azt az utolsó napon. 41 A zsidók zúgolódni kezdtek ellene, mert ezt mondta: Én vagyok az a kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt le. 42 És azt kérdezték: Nem Jézus ez, József fia, akinek ismerjük apját és anyját? Akkor hogyan mondhatja: A mennyből szálltam le? 43 Jézus így válaszolt nekik: Ne zúgolódjatok egymás között! 44 Senki sem jöhet énhozzám, ha nem vonzza őt az Atya, aki elküldött engem. Én pedig feltámasztom azt az utolsó napon. 45 Meg van írva a prófétáknál: „És mindnyájan Istentől tanítottak lesznek.” Aki az Atyára hallgatott, és tőle tanult, az mind énhozzám jön. 46 Nem mintha bárki látta volna az Atyát: csak aki az Istentől van, az látta az Atyát. 47 Bizony, bizony, mondom nektek: aki hisz, annak örök élete van. 48 Én vagyok az élet kenyere. 49 Atyáitok a mannát ették a pusztában, mégis meghaltak. 50 De ez az a kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt le, hogy aki eszik belőle, meg ne haljon. 51 Én vagyok az az élő kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt le: ha valaki eszik ebből a kenyérből, élni fog örökké, mert az a kenyér, amelyet én adok oda a világ életéért, az az én testem. 52 A zsidók vitatkozni kezdtek egymás között, és ezt kérdezték: Hogyan adhatná ez nekünk a testét eledelül? 53 Jézus így szólt hozzájuk: Bizony, bizony, mondom nektek: ha nem eszitek az Emberfia testét, és nem isszátok a vérét, nincsen élet tibennetek. 54 Aki eszi az én testemet, és issza az én véremet, annak örök élete van, és én feltámasztom őt az utolsó napon. 55 Mert az én testem igazi étel, és az én vérem igazi ital. 56 Aki eszi az én testemet, és issza az én véremet, az énbennem marad, és én őbenne. 57 Ahogyan engem az élő Atya küldött el, és én az Atya által élek, úgy az is, aki engem eszik, élni fog énáltalam. 58 Ez az a kenyér, amely a mennyből szállt le; ez nem olyan, mint amilyet atyáitok ettek, és mégis meghaltak: aki ezt a kenyeret eszi, élni fog örökké.
